The Garden Route is a breathtaking 300 km stretch along the south-eastern coast of South Africa, extending from Witsand in the Western Cape to the Tsitsikamma and Storms River region.

The eastern end of the Garden Route is Storms River village, located just 50 minutes from Plettenberg Bay. Its evocative name reflects the rugged and dramatic landscape that surrounds it. Inland to the north lies the dense, mountainous Tsitsikamma Forest, home to zip-lining adventures, kayaking through deep gorges, and the world’s highest commercial bungee jump (709 ft) at Bloukrans Bridge.
To the south, along the coastline, lies the breathtaking Tsitsikamma National Park. One of the country’s most famous hiking routes, the five-day Otter Trail, begins at Storms River Mouth and winds through lush forests and dramatic cliff-top views before ending at Nature Valley, a truly unforgettable highlight of any Garden Route journey.
Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s largest and most famous game reserves.
Its incredible wildlife density includes the Big Five, lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo. Hundreds of other mammals also call this park home, along with diverse birdlife such as vultures, eagles, and storks. The landscape is equally varied, featuring mountains, bushveld plains, and tropical forests.
The best time to visit Kruger National Park is during the dry season, from May to October, when game viewing is at its peak. Vegetation is sparse during this time, making animals easier to spot and track, while permanent water sources attract wildlife for exceptional safari encounters.
Kruger is easily accessible, with several nearby airports including Skukuza Airport, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, and Hoedspruit Airport. Even with limited time, you can enjoy a rewarding 2–3 day safari experience.
